Suicide

Stress, disappointment, depression, feelings of alienation or heartbreak - it's hard to know how any individual will react to these sorts of life stresses and turmoil. Sometimes when someone feels hopeless or overwhelmed, their thoughts may turn to suicide.

Be aware of the warning signs and risk factors for suicide and know the groups of people who have disproportionately high rates of suicide - such as seniors and adolescents.

If you or someone you know may be at risk of committing suicide, contact emergency services in your area immediately to get professional advice. Your local phone book will have the telephone numbers of distress lines and support agencies.
